Panti, pirates and Poldark's transformation into a bad guy are our picks of the bunch.
Panti Does 2015, 10:55pm, RTÉ2
After a fabulous year personally and politically, Panti throws her eye over the highs and lows of the last 12 months. She'll be joined, we're told, by celebrity elves, and faces from showbiz and sport to look back at the stories that broke the internet in a top 20 countdown. Expect laughs and lumps in the throat as we head to the top spot.
And Then There Were None, 9:00pm, BBC One
The Beeb dusts off the Agatha Christie classic for a new three-parter which continues on December 27 and concludes on December 28. The whodunnit is set in Devon in 1939 as a group of strangers, who have been invited to a remote house, realise there may be a killer among them. Joining Charles Dance, Sam Neill, Miranda Richardson, Toby Stephens and Noah Taylor in a great cast is Poldark star Aidan Turner (far left in picture), who plays Irish mercenary Philip Lombard. "There's nothing he wouldn't do," says the Dublin actor of his character. "I wouldn't put anything past him. He's a nasty kind of guy and you get the impression he's done some horrible things in his life and he's not really regretful of any of them." Poldark turns nasty? Now that really is worth staying in for.
Captain Phillips, 10:25pm, RTÉ One
The best white-knuckle thriller of 2013 heralded a real return to form for Tom Hanks. It tells the true story of the MV Maersk Alabama, which was attacked by Somali pirates in April 2009 while en route to Mombasa, Kenya. From the moment Hanks sees ominous blips on the radar the pace is relentless, and your own anxiety increases by the minute. As he showed with his Bourne films and United 93, director Paul Greengrass is a master of both the unbearably edgy, hand-held camera set-piece and heart-rending human drama. Here both are combined in a story which interweaves the financial predicament of the working man with the will to survive life's worst. Don't get left on the quayside.
