Merry Christmas - (Britpop) war is well and truly over. The bromance between Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn bloomed again over the weekend when the chalk and cheese pair performed together at the 60th birthday bash of Clash bassist Paul Simonon.
Simonon hits the big 6-0 this Tuesday and he marked his birthday by forming a supergroup comprised of himself, Gallagher, Albarn, rapper Kano, Ringo Starr's son Zak Starkey, and Pretenders' frontwoman Chrissie Hynde.
They played Gorillaz’ songs DARE and Clint Eastwood The Clash’s Brand New Cadillac and Guns of Brixton among a nine song set list.
Noel and Damon previously joined forces with Paul Weller to play Blur's No 1 hit Tender at a Teenage Cancer Trust gig at the Royal Albert Hall in 2013.
Speaking to NME in April 2014, Albarn said that the much-hyped Britpop feud between himself and Gallagher had died down.
"I still see Noel from time to time. We text a bit . . . I can imagine [a collaboration] being a very distinct possibility at some point in the future. But, as yet we haven't really talked about it. OK we have a little bit. We're talking. It's not anything to get excited about yet . . . but the principle of us making music together is something . . . you know, it would be fair to say, we have discussed it at least once."
