After eight weeks of gruelling baking challenges, Cathy McKenna has been crowned the winner of The Great Irish Bake Off!

The Monaghan redhead blew the judges away with her stunning Harvest Moon Wedding Cake and Deconstructed Apple Crumbles, earning her the title of Ireland's Best Amateur Baker.

27-year-old McKenna said: "It feels absolutely amazing to be the winner of the Bake Off, I cannot believe it. So I'm just going to grab the bull buy the horns now and make the most of this."

The competition was close between the three female finalists, with judge Paul Kelly commenting: "That was one of the toughest decisions we have ever made in a final."

According to the Irish Mirror, McKenna has been inundated with wedding cake orders by fans of the show, and is bound to get even more now that the final has aired.

“The eventual goal is to be able to make a living from baking and confectionery," she said. "Whether that will lead me down the road of opening a cafe, bakery or working at home, I don’t know yet.”
