A charity single featuring Shane Filan is helping to raise funds for the Children's Medical Research Foundation in Crumlin and the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.
The song, When I Grow Up from the musical Matilda, is sung by the former Westlife members and a chorus of over two thousand voices, and has just entered the Top 20 on the Official Irish Chart.
Recorded in Dublin's Bord Gáis Energy Theatre at the end of October, the project has the approval of the songwriter Tim Minchin, who has waived all royalty fees for the use of his tune.
The X Factor has produced every Irish Christmas number one since 2006, so When I Grow Up producer Stephen Macken is hoping to break that long run and get an Irish record on top this Christmas.
"I chose When I Grow Up as the AIMS charity single because of its deeper meaning in the context of its portrayal of the simple childhood dreams and ambitions that we all once projected into our adult lives," he says.
"Eating sweets all day, climbing taller trees, no longer fearing monsters, and how those dreams and ambitions are the same for all children, including those who face an uncertain future due to illness and who may never live to see their fulfilment.
"It's that context that makes the song so special and meaningful."
