John Boyega, who plays the lead role of Finn, a disillusioned Imperial stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is remaining tight-lipped about his character and the new movie just days before it's due to hit cinemas.

However, he did break the code of secrecy on set when he took the script home with him, despite appeals not to from director JJ Abrams.

Speaking to TEN, the 23-year-old from Peckham in London said: "They said you're not allowed bring scripts home but I did. Hahahahaha! I'm in the film now, I can say that!"

Boyega added: "I believe in JJ's vision, and JJ feels that it's good to pay homage to how Star Wars was in 1977 when the first film came out and no one had Twitter or Instagram. You just sat down and went on an adventure for a few hours, so that's what people are going to do on December 17. I support that, so it's easy for me to keep secrets when it comes to Star Wars."

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits cinemas on December 17.
