The very first trailer for Steven Spielberg's big screen adaptation of Raold Dahl's classic The BFG has landed and you can have a look at what's in store right here, right now.

Dahl’s book tells the story of a young girl named Sophie and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country.

Mark Rylance of Wolf Hall fame plays The Big Friendly Giant and he reunites with Spielberg after his role in the director’s just released Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies. Sophie is played by Ruby Barnill who previously appeared in the TV show, The 4 O'Clock Club.

The cast also includes Rebecca Hall and Bill Hader.

Spielberg says: “I think it was kind of genius of Roald Dahl to be able to empower the children. It was very, very brave of him to introduce that combination of darkness and light and being able to do scary, but also be redemptive at the same time and teach a lesson, an enduring lesson, to everyone, it was a wonderful thing for Dahl to have done, and it was one of the things that attracted me to want to direct this Dahl book.”

The BFG was first published in 1982 and is one of the few Dahl books that has never been adapted into a feature film.

Originally created as a bedtime story, The BFG was Dahl’s own favourite of all his stories. The film opens in cinemas on July 22 2016, the year that marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth.
