Despite rumours that a new actor will take on the role of Indiana Jones for a reboot of the franchise, director Steven Spielberg has said Harrison Ford is "irreplaceable" in the role and if a fifth film is made, it will be with him in the lead.
Chris Pratt is the latest name rumoured to be taking on the role of Indiana Jones but Spielberg has said there is only one Dr. Jones for him.
"I don't think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy, I don't think that's ever going to happen," he told Screen International. "It's certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into his shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman.
"There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that's Harrison Ford."
While we may like to forget that 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull happened, Spielberg assured fans that there are plenty more stories to be told.
"As long as there's more adventures out there, I've got a bullwhip, a fedora, a leather jacket and a man on a horse who knows how to get the job done," he added.
Ford is on the same page as his long-time collaborator, saying recently that he would love another run as the iconic character, "Yeah, I’d love to do another Indiana Jones. A character that has a history and a potential, kind of a rollicking good movie ride for the audience, Steven Spielberg as a director — what’s not to like?"
Earlier this year Lucasfilm confirmed that a fifth film will be made saying, "When it will happen, I'm not quite sure. We haven't started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it."
