X factor star Fleur East tells RTÉ TEN that the music mogul may be brutal but that he is in fact a very nice, down to earth person underneath the Mr Nasty façade.

She may have narrowly missed out on being crowned X Factor champ last year, but Fleur East had her own victory when she became the show's first contestant to reach number one on the UK iTunes Store chart during the competition with her performance of Uptown Funk (originally by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars).

She recently returned to The X Factor stage to perform her sassy new single, Sax, and if her high-octane and polished routine was a marker for things to come, East is going to be around for quite some time.

It was no surprise that Simon Cowell offered the 28-year-old a record deal with is Syco label, despite coming in second place and, even though the music mogul might come across as harsh, she reckons this is the best way to prepare you for the "cut-throat" music world.

Speaking to RTÉ TEN East said:  "He's really nice, he's really down to earth, he's straight talking and sometimes comes across quite brutal. But for me as a person I prefer that, I think it saves a lot of time. It is cut throat but that's what this industry is like. He prepares you for that."

Love, Sax & Flashbacks is released on December 4.
