Justin Bieber's latest album Purpose has smashed Spotify' s most-streamed first-week release record.

The What Do You Mean? singer's new album Purpose was streamed an incredible 205 million times globally following its release last Friday (November 13).

77 million of those were in the US, according to the streaming service.

This breaks both the US and global records for most streams of an album in its first week on sale.

The previous record holder was The Weekend's Beauty Behind The Madness, which was streamed 90 million times in its first week.

One Direction also released their latest album Made in the A.M. this week which earned 106 million streams globally in the same time frame. Bieber currently has 15 songs in Spotify's Global Top 50 chart (led by new single Sorry at No. 1), while One Direction has nine (the highest-charting, Drag Me Down, is at No. 9).
