Musician Jerry Fish has said he loves listening to up-and-coming Irish bands saying there is a "sincerity" in what we do as a nation, in terms of making music.
Speaking to TEN, Fish said he really enjoys listening to young Irish bands because they have great energy, "I like the energy of young alternative bands, The Minutes, The Strypes, they've played with us. In saying younger bands, I guess its a punk energy that I really love."
While Fish believes the future of Irish music in safe in those bands' hands, he doesn't think the Irish music scene will ever wane.
"I don’t ever think it will stop, I think it's in our nature to show off and that's what we do. Someone once told me to be a king in Ireland, you had to be the wittiest person because you couldn't out-wit the king – everyone was trying to be the king basically.
"So I think it's in our nature to keep showing off and we're good at it, I think we also have a sincerity about what we do which I don’t think will ever go away – [laughs] we are central to the universe after all."
Fish has had a long career spanning over two decades and his latest project, the Electric Sideshow which you might recognise from it's home at Electric Picnic, is going on the road and his circus themed show will be rolling up at Dublin's Vicar Street on December 5.
"The electric sideshow is a bit of a fantasy I guess. I'm a big fan of old theatre and circus. Its got the alternative music I like, and something different as well. Its basically about fringe theatre and a bit of anarchy, a bit of mayhem," he said.
Vicar Street is such an intimate venue and Fish added that it will be totally transformed for his show. "It's a stage we put on at Electric Picnic so I'm trying to bring that to the venues... It will be [transformed], I' ve a lot of stage props I bring in... We've a lot of bunting and its really creating the illusion of a circus tent in a venue.
"It's a kind of carnival sideshow so I like a lot of spectacles to be happening, not just on the stage but beside the stage and behind you. I guess there's a bit of Tim Burton in there, it's a bit freaky, it's a lot of fun - I'm as entertained as anyone at the show."
