British actor and TV star James Corden is to be honoured at the 11th annual Oscar Wilde Awards in February.

The award is usually given to entertainers with an Irish background, but on occasion it is bestowed upon honorary Irishmen or women.

This year, 37-year-old Corden has been selected by members of the US-Ireland Alliance to receive the honour in recognition of his contribution to film and television - and we think his once-off appearance in Riverdance may have helped to seal the deal.

Speaking about the Gavin and Stacey star, US-Ireland Alliance president Trina Vargo said: "He deserves to be our 'honorary Irishman' this year just on the basis of the courage it takes to perform with some of the finest Irish dancers in the world."

Previous honourees include Colin Farrell, Saoirse Ronan, Brendan Gleeson and Van Morrison.

The Oscar Wilde awards will once again be hosted by J.J. Abrams on February 25, the night before the Academy Awards.

Corden recently showed-off his Irish accent to TEN, click hear to check it out.
