RTÉ Radio 1 presenter Shay Byrne has helped the children of St Raphael's Special School in Celbridge, Co Kildare to launch their very own Christmas album.

"I'm proud and honoured to be associated with a great group of talented young people from St Raph. Watch out Ed Sheeran, One Direction and Meghan Trainor," said the Risin' Time host.

The Stars of St Raphael's Special School features 64 pupils contributing to the variety album's 27 tracks, with all proceeds going to St Raphael's.

The children, their teachers and special needs assistants and the sixth class students from nearby Scoil na Mainistreach rehearsed for a week before recording the album last month during school assembly.

They need to cover the €2,400 cost of producing the CDs, which are on sale in the local area and from St Raphael's Special School.

Aisling McNiffe, whose son Jack, aged 10 attends the school and appears on the album, paid tribute to the teamwork of all involved.

"This CD is just a wonderful way of fundraising while also showcasing our lovely children's many talents," she said. "They flourish and each fulfils their own potential. The school has gone from strength to strength in the last few years."
