The Dublin Book Festival runs from November 12 to 15 with four days of readings, public interviews, debates, book launches and workshops.
Most events will take place in Smock Alley,Temple Bar as well as The Gutter Bookshop, Irish Writers Centre, Irish Georgian Society, National Library, Fighting Words and Dublin City Public Libraries.
Many events are free admission. Celebrating the launch of Winter Pages (Curlew Editions), Ireland’s new annual arts anthology, Seán Rocks from RTÉ Radio 1's Arena is in conversation with Goldsmiths Prize winner Kevin Barry, Wexford novelist Peter Murphy and Claire Kilroy on Thursday November 12, at 6.30pm at Smock Alley theatre.
Arena's live show, featuring Kate Dempsey, Reggie Chamberlain-King, Frankie Gaffney and Danielle McLaughlin In conversation with Seán Rocks. Music by The Healing and The Matthews takes place on Friday November 13, also at Smock Alley at 6.50pm.
Saturday Events at Smock Alley
The People of the 1916 Rising features Turtle Bunbury, Felicity Hayes-McCoy, Lucy McDiarmid and Fearghal McGarry, in conversation with Tommy Graham exploring the people of 1916, from the famous personalities to the innocent children. That's on Saturday next, November 14, at Smock Alley Theatre 1.30pm.
In The Poet’s Chair, Harry Clifton, Michael Longley and Paula Meehan will be in conversation with Arminta Wallace at 2.15pm.
Writing Long & Short features Dermot Bolger, Aidan Matthews, Nuala Ní Chonchúir, Éilís Ní Dhuibhne and Donal Ryan, in conversation with Paula Shields at 3.30pm.
The Inspiration of Life, Love and Loss features Moyra Donaldson, Mark Granier, John MacKenna and Nessa O’Mahony, in conversation with Maureen Kennelly at 4.00pm
The Long Gaze Back features Anne Enright, Sinéad Gleeson, Christine Dwyer Hickey and Lisa McInerney, in conversation with Madeleine Keane at 5.15pm.
Windharp, in association with Poetry Ireland takes place at 8.00pm. Edited by poetry commentator, Niall MacMonagle, the recently published Windharp is an accessible and inspiring guide to a century of Irish poetry. A number of poets will read from the anthology, including Ireland Professor of Poetry Paula Meehan. Music will be provided by Grammy award-winning Susan McKeown.
