Gwen Stefani has spoken about her heartbreak following her divorce from Gavin Rossdale, saying her life "blew up" in her face.
The former No Doubt singer and the Bush frontman announced that they were ending their 13-year marriage in August this year, leaving her devastated.
Speaking to the US show Today, she explained that she poured her heartbreak into her new single Used to Love You, saying: "On the way into the studio the first time, I didn't want to go. I wanted to be in my bed, like, crying. And I did, I cried all the way down to Santa Monica (California), driving to Santa Monica, and I was like, 'What am I doing? Why am I doing this?'"
The 46-year-old singer said that she took inspiration from her emotional state, "That feeling of being able to write again, that's everything to me. My value on myself is by songwriting... I think within eight weeks I had 19 songs... I was like, 'Listen all I wanna do is I just want to say the truth. I just want the truth to come out. I just want to be honest and real'."
Stefani added that since her life "blew up" in her face, she has come out the other end and is trying to enjoy herself, saying: "My life is so extreme right now. My life basically blew up in my face. And now I'm in this new life, and it's pretty awesome I have to say - I'm so inspired being back on the show [The Voice], and just being in a new place. Everything just feels new. I just feel inspired. I don't know how else to describe it...
"I was literally that party girl that you hear about when their life blows up, and you're like, 'Yeah! I'm going out! Like, watch me!' We're just trying to have fun, you know?"
