Adele may have stepped out of the spotlight for the last few years to concentrate on being a mum, and she has now revealed it wasn't all plain sailing.

The award-winning singer, who has released her first single in three years earlier this week, has shared her experiences of being a first time mum to her son Angelo, who was born in October 2012.

Speaking to i-D online Adele admitted: "It's f**king hard. I thought it would be easy. 'Everyone f**king does it, how hard can it be?' Ohhhhh... I had no idea.

"It is hard but it's phenomenal. It's the greatest thing I ever did. He makes me be a dickhead, and he makes me feel young and there's nothing more grounding than a kid kicking off and refusing to do what you're asking of them.

"It used to be that my own world revolved around me, but now it has to revolve around him."

Adele also spoke about her own childhood and how that has made her realise that being a mum is one of the most important jobs she can have.

"I had a great childhood," she said. "I was very loved, which I realise now is so important, being a mum. The way I was brought up, the morals are the same, but the environment is very different to how I'm raising my child.

"It was fun and it's worlds away from what I do now and I'm very conscious of that."

Adele's new single Hello is the first song from her new album 25 which is due for release on November 20. The video has already smashed records for the most views on Vevo in 24 hours and has now clocked up a staggering 106 million views online.
