Idris Elba, JK Simmons, Octavia Spencer, Jenny Slate and Alan Tudyk are among those lending their voices to Disney's upcoming animation Zootropolis.

Elba will play the head of the Zootropolis Police Department Chief Bogo, Simmons will be the "noble leader" Mayor Leodore Lionheart, Slate takes on the role of "sweet sheep" Assistant Mayor Bellwether, and Tudyk is a small-time weasel crook called Duke Weaselton, according to Empire Online.

Directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, and produced by Clark Spencer, the movie centres on rabbit police officer Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) who learns the hard way that being the first bunny in the precinct alongside her big and tough animal colleagues is not as fun as she first imagined. Determined to prove herself, Hopps jumps at the chance to solve one particularly hard case, even if that does mean she has to partner up with smooth-talking scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman).

Other cast members announced include Nate Torrence, Tommy Chong, Bonnie Hunt, Scandal's Katie Lowes and Futurama's John DiMaggio.

Zootropolis is set for release in Ireland on March 25, 2016
