Ireland still plays on Jamie Lawson's heartstrings

Lawson says he feels at home in Ireland

Without a hint of Blarney, singer-songwriter Jamie Lawson has said that he had a sense of home the first time he visited Ireland, and that it continues to this day.

Lawson, who is originally from Plymouth in Devon, told TEN that he found in Ireland the things that were missing in his hometown - so much so that he spent almost a year living here.

"Coming to Ireland there was a definite sense of place of song, of other people that were similar to me in what they liked," he recalled.

And while Lawson's schedule for his just-released eponymous album and hit song Wasn't Expecting That now sees him travelling all around the world, he said he will always look for his home away from home on the itinerary.

"I always look forward to coming here. I probably, y'know, don't want to leave too soon. I like it here, I have friends here; it's a nice place," he said with characteristic understatement.

Lawson hit the jackpot when his track Wasn't Expecting That created a huge impact with YouTube users, attracting over 800,000 views and later sparked a number one single.

Apart from being the first artist to sign to Ed Sheeran's label Gingerbread Man Records, Jamie is currently busy playing support for One Direction on their current tour which continues tonight in Belfast after last night's hullabaloo. He also played support to Sheeran on the second of his two sell out gigs at Croke Park in July.

Jamie's next headline gig will at Whelans in Dublin on November 1.
