The Irish animated adventure Song of the Sea has been nominated in the Best Animated Feature Film category at this year's European Film Awards.

The acclaimed film from Kilkenny's Cartoon Saloon was Oscar-nominated earlier this year and also won Best Film at the Irish Film and Television Awards.

It will now compete against Shaun the Sheep the Movie and the French production Adama for the top European honour. The winner will be announced at the European Film Awards in Berlin on Saturday December 12.

Directed by Cartoon Saloon's Tomm Moore, and based around the legend of the Selkies, Song of the Sea follows the adventures of Saoirse and her brother Ben.

The film features the voices of Lucy O'Connell, David Rawle, Lisa Hannigan, Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, Jon Kenny, Pat Shortt, Liam Hourican and Colm Ó Snodaigh.

It will be released on DVD, Blu-Ray and VOD on November 9.
