O'Donnell struts his stuff in leather

Daniel O'Donnell donned a 'T-Bird' leather jacket and swung his hips on Strictly as Danny Zuko from Grease – although there was not enough hip action for one of the judges.

With a total score of 21 out of 40 from the judges, O'Donnell and his quiff strutted their stuff on the dance floor, but it was all a little too clean and safe according to Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli.

Speaking about O'Donnell and partner Kristina Rihanoff's cha-cha-cha to Summer Nights from the movie Grease, Darcey Bussell said: "You had such a good time as John Travolta. It was a little soft; I would have liked it to be cleaner and crisper. You need to really exaggerate your moves."

Head judge Len Goodman also enjoyed the performance but felt there was something missing. He said: "It wasn't all Tears on my Pillow – but it certainly wasn't Greased Lightenin'. It was a mix between Summer Nights and Last of the Summer Wine."

Bruno Tonioli reckoned it was all a bit too nice: "It was more Danny Zucchini than Danny Zuko. It was all very nice and gentle. You were skipping along and you don't skip on the cha-cha-cha. You've got to go for it."

And finally Craig Revel Horwood praised him for remembering the steps, even if they didn't have enough pizzazz: "I thought it was very stompy and there was a lack of hip action – you remembered the choreography and your timing is very good, but you don't have pizzazz and oomph."

However, O'Donnell wasn't having any of what Revel Horwood said and retorted: "I think he is just jealous of Danny Zuko!"

O'Donnell also revealed that if he gets through this week, he will be dancing the foxtrot next: "Next week is the foxtrot, so I'll have to get better and stop the stomping."
