RTÉ Radio 1 was named Full Service Station of the Year at the 2015 PPI Radio Awards on Friday night.
The Awards, which are seen as the ‘Oscars’ of Irish radio, were held in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Galway and presented by comedian Barry Murphy.
As well as being honoured with the top award – Full Service Station of the Year – Richard Crowley from RTÉ Radio 1 picked up News Broadcaster of the Year, while Damien O’Reilly was named best Speech Broadcaster.
Music Station of the Year was won by FM104, and Local Station of the Year was won by BBC Radio Foyle.
Other notable honours went to Dara Quilty for Music Presenter of the Year (98 FM), Joe Molloy for Sports Presenter of the Year (Newstalk) and the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show for Breakfast Programme of the Year (Today FM).
Chair of the PPI Radio Awards committee, Sean Murtagh, said at the event: “Because of the unique way in which the PPIs are judged – with judges drawn from the radio industry at home and abroad – winning a PPI award, or even just making the shortlist, is a stamp of approval from your peers to say that you are making outstanding radio.”
