Top Gear presenter Chris Evans has said that he may end up driving the show solo without the need for any co-hosts.
He suggested that the old format of three presenters may not be a fixture when it comes back on TV next year.
He told the Press Association news agency in Cannes that, "We are going to do things differently, because we have to, we want to.
He said he was adamant that the show would have to evolve and deliver something different to what Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond produced. The trio have been given a massive €220 million budget for their new motoring show on Amazon Prime - reputedly called Gear Knobs- making it one of the most expensive programmes in UK TV history.
Evans said, "Because they were brilliant at it, I'm not going to do that. So, one thing is for sure, there's not going to be me and one guy there, and one guy there, that's not going to happen."
Last month he was forced to deny rumours that his friend Zoe Ball was going to co-host the show, calling the reports “hilariously inaccurate.” Guy Martin and Dermot O'Leary were also touted as possible co-hosts.
However members of the public may yet get a chance to guest as hosts on the show. Earlier this year, Evans called on Top Gear fans to send in short audition clips, with the aim of finding presenters to join him.
"We've screen tested some people from the videos at the Top Gear studio so some people who sent those videos in have reached the final stages," he revealed.
But the good news for Top Gear fans is that the Stig will remain when the show resumes in May 2016.
