Wayne Rooney - The Man Behind The Goals

9.00pm BBC One

When Wayne Rooney scored against Switzerland at Wembley in September he became England’s greatest ever goalscorer, eclipsing a record held by Sir Bobby Charlton for almost half a century. BBC football presenter Gary Lineker meets Wayne and family, including his wife Coleen and their two sons, Kai and Klay, to deliver the story of the real Wayne Rooney. The player recalls the housing estates in Merseyside where he grew up as an Everton fan. We meet both his and Coleen’s parents,  and learn about the couple’s early life together. David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovich, Sven Goran Eriksson and a host of other figures from the world of football also take part.

Hidden Impact: Rugby and Concussion

9.35pm RTÉ One

Hidden Impact is a fascinating one-hour documentary investigating the troubling issue of concussion in rugby. It features contributions from Ronan O'Gara, Johnny Sexton, Conor O'Shea and players who have been affected by concussion as well as the medics trying to tackle the problem. The documentary looks at the macho culture that encourages players to carry on regardless and asks what can be done to make the game safer. In the course of the film, Ronan O’Gara makes the following observation. “There was a huge macho culture in rugby… but players have relinquished power, now the doctor is the deal-maker.”
