The RTÉ Concert Orchestra is clearly hitting all the right notes with audiences after it was named the World's Favourite Orchestra in an international online poll.

The Irish orchestra secured a massive 25% of votes, double that of its nearest competitor, which gave it the largest winning margin to date in the poll, which is conducted (pun intended) by website, Bachtrack.

The RTÉ Concert Orchestra beat off competition from legendary orchestras from across the globe, including the Buffalo Philharmonic in the US,  the Berlin Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Anthony Long, General Manager, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, said: "Over the last three years Bachtrack's poll of favourite orchestras and conductors has established itself as a barometer of how orchestras connect with their audiences and public.

"This amazing result demonstrates how privileged we are to have such massive support from our public, coming as we do from a small country such as Ireland. I would like to thank our audience for this result, placing us as the World's Favourite Orchestra, and hope we will continue to serve them with the quality of concerts and broadcasts they deserve".

In addition to support from musicians such as Marti Pellow, Brian Kennedy and Rebecca Storm, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra received huge backing from the public both at home and abroad with supporters taking to social media to spread the word.

Last year The RTÉ Concert Orchestra performed to almost 100,000 people across Ireland, with some of the most popular concerts featuring music from the movies including screenings of classic films such as the The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Gladiator and Pixar in Concert with live score.
