David Schwimmer is making a return to our TV screens in a new Channel 4 sitcom Morning Has Broken.

The six-episode British comedy from Julia Davis will see Schwimmer play an American TV producer hired to rescue a failing breakfast show, hosted by Gail Sinclair, the self-styled 'Queen of Daytime', played by Davis.

Nick Mohammed, who co-created Morning Has Broken with Davis, will play one of Gail's co-presenters.

Rachel Springett from Channel 4 said: "Julia is undoubtedly one of our most talented comedic writers and actresses and it's a testament to the quality of her writing that she can attract such a big star."

The show is set to air on the channel next year.

It has been over a decade since Schwimmer played much-loved character Ross Gellar on Friends, and since then he has mostly worked on stage and directed films. However he is set to star as Robert Kardashian in the FX miniseries American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.

This is the second Friends star to appear in a British comedy after Matt LeBlanc's Episodes, which is co-produced by the BBC and Showtime.
