Showrunner Al Jean has suggested that The Simpsons will end its marathon run on TV with its 30th season.
Already the longest-running American sitcom, the longest-running American animated show, and the longest-running American scripted primetime television series, it started back in 1989 and has been nothing short of a phenomenon.
Currently in its 27th season, contracted to the end of the 28th and with an option on another two, negotiations would have to begin between fox and the show were it to go beyond season 30.
"It's quite possible that we don't have to go through the whole negotiation for 30," Jean told The Hollywood Reporter.
"I wouldn't be stunned if we stopped at 28, but my bet is on at least 30. But then, you'd have to re-sign them again.
"If you made me pick one, I'd say the likeliest is ending after 30, but I've been wrong before. I thought five seasons was good when I got there!"
