Sam Smith nervous as Bond theme is released

Sam Smith's theme for Spectre has finally been released

The wait is over for James Bond fans as the theme tune for the new Spectre film has finally landed.

Sam Smith's Spectre track Writing's On The Wall was unveiled on this morning, and the song has left fans in delighted with its classic 007 sound.

However the singer has admitted he is nervous about how Bond fans will react to the theme tune.

He said: "I'm excited for people to hear it and I hope it just does the film and the legacy justice." Smith also said he would love to follow in the steps of Adele and win an Oscar for the song, but said: "It's not even something I'm thinking about."

Writing's on the Wall, co-written with Grammy winner Jimmy Napes, is the first Bond theme performed by a British male solo artist since 1965, when Tom Jones sang Thunderball.

He previously told the Sun newspaper; "With Bond songs you get to be as dramatic as you want. I got to get away with unbelievable string and brass sections - I got to be a drama queen."

And it seems that he has delivered on that promise. Starting off with a soaring string intro the song then rises to show off Smith's impressive range. As the track reached a climatic chorus, he sings: "Tell me is this where i give it all up? For you, I have to risk it all - 'cause the writing's on the wall."

The song is now licensed to stream. Have a listen here if you have a Spotify account.

Ajay Chowdhury, from the James Bond International Fan Club, said the song has "automatically achieved classic Bond song status".

"It's a perfect combination of Sam meets Sam," he said. "Taking its cue from a moment in the film where Bond sees his name spray painted on the Memorial Wall of the derelict MI6 HQ. It's big and dramatic and showcases the full range of Sam Smith's extraordinary voice."

And there was high praise too from a former 007, Roger Moore, who called the song"haunting".

Spectre goes on release in Ireland on October 26.
