Fright Club! Brad Pitt movie spooks Antrim animals

Cattle, chicken, hens and horses were terrified by the noise of loud explosions coming from the film set of The Lost City of Z, which is being made by Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B, in Co. Antrim.

Production of The Lost City of Z, which stars Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson and Sienna Millar, has been taking place across Northern Ireland for a number of months.

The film tells the story of adventurer Percival Fawcett who ventured into the Amazon in search of the lost kingdom of El Dorado only to vanish without trace.

Residents close to the set are up in arms as a number of large fires billowing huge amounts of smoke across the countryside as well as gunfire and explosions are upsetting their livestock and blighting the landscape.

Speaking to local newspaper The Larne Times, local man Jason McKillion explained that the explosions have rocked his house and scared his animals.

He said: "It started last Monday [September 14] with bangs, gunfire and small explosions. Then on Tuesday the bigger explosions started.

“The explosions shook the house and windows and the boom echoed through the glen.

“My neighbour’s horses were in the field near the film set and they went spare, trying to jump the ditches.

“On Wednesday, there was another explosion and my animals went daft. The chickens were squawking and the dog was outside, barking and shaking.

“I went to Larne and when I came back the dog was shivering under a chair and the hens had all gone. Then I heard there had been another explosion while I was out.

“I was sitting outside and the chickens had just come back when there was another explosion, even louder than the last. Another neighbour’s cow and calf jumped the hedge and the cows were bellowing in fear.

"It sounded like a war was going on."

While McKillion is delighted that filming is taking place in their locality he believes residents should have been notified in advance so that could put proper precautions in place for their animals.

Representatives for the production have been contacted by Northern Ireland Screen and made aware of the disruption.
