Jack Reynor has said he felt very honoured to land a role alongside Michael Fassbender in Macbeth saying the experience was "amazing, but also terrifying."

The 23-year-old Transformers: Age of Extinction star was speaking at a Q&A in Dublin's Light House Cinema following a screening of Macbeth. He said that he was very eager to be cast in the film and felt honoured when he got the call to say he had landed the role of Malcolm, heir to the Scottish throne.

"We all felt very honoured, while also very cautious and intimidated by what we were doing," he said. "But it meant there wasn't as much room for the normal egotism and that, that can happen on film sets, so it was a really pure experience."

Michael Fassbender plays the lead role in Macbeth

In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth and Malcolm are sworn enemies, battling for the throne of Scotland. But Jack has revealed that off-screen he and fellow Irish actor Michael, who stars as Macbeth, were the best of pals.

He also said the leading man was much more than just a film star on set, "He was a million other things as well; he was great with everybody there. He was great with the crew, great with the director, he was great with everybody."

Reynor previously told TEN after filming had wrapped on Macbeth that he was delighted to get to work with Fassbender, who is a hero of his, "We had a great time working on Macbeth together and it was cool to have an Irish contingent over there with all those Scottish lads."

Macbeth hits cinemas on October 2.
