Michael Flatley will be hanging up his dancing shoes after making his long-awaited debut on Broadway with Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games.

The show, which received its World Premiere at Dublin's 3Arena earlier this year, features holographs, dancing robots and acrobats accompanying Flatley's team of Irish dancers.

The 57-year-old star will be making limited appearances during his Broadway stint and will feature at the end of each evening's performance during it's two month run from November.

He said it had always been on his wishlist to perform on Broadway. "That's the last dream. My wife and my team asked, 'Is there anything else we haven't done in this career?' I said, 'I've never done Broadway and I want to dance in the greatest place in the world.'"

The Chicago-born dancer, who lives at his €30m Castlehyde mansion near Fermoy in north Cork with his wife, Niamh, and son, Michael Jnr, shot to fame with his starring role in Riverdance.

Flatley is credited with reinventing Irish dance and earlier this year discussed the gruelling impact that dancing has taken on his body, saying he has suffered broken bones and spine damage over the years.

The original Lord of the Dance, which premiered in 1996, broke the box office record after performing 21 consecutive shows at London's Wembley Arena - a record yet to be broken.
