It looks like the drama's going to get cranked up yet another notch when Empire season two gets underway.

The hip hop soap was – by some distance - the breakout sensation of the year on American TV and enjoys considerable cult status on this side of the Atlantic.

The show focuses on the constant in-fighting of the Lyon family, led by Empire Entertainment label boss and rap legend Lucious Lyon (Terence Howard) and his fiery ex-wife Cookie, a part that was made for former Person of Interest star Taraji P Henson.

And if latest trailer is any indication, it certainly looks like a Lyon family feud is about to explode as the Lyon sons battle for control of Empire Entertainment, their parents take love-hate relationships to a new extreme.

"I never stopped loving you Cookie. I tried but it never went away," Lucious says, before snarling: "It's crazy how I can love you and hate you at the same moment!"

Cookie's reponse? "I call it torture." Miaow!!!

Empire returns to Fox on September 23 in the US and follows soon after in the UK on E4.
