Electric Picnic star Sam Smith has again ruled out singing the theme tune for Bond movie Spectre, leaving Radiohead and Elle Goulding as the favourites to provide the song.
Smith (23), who performed at the Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Co Laois last night (September 5), dismissed ongoing speculation that he would be performing the theme, saying he had heard Ellie Goulding was recording the song.
Speaking to Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2, four-time Grammy winner Smith said: "That's not me. That's definitely not me. I've still got loads to do. I've got an Australia tour, but I kind of finish in December, which is great. It gives me a chance to be in London, be in my home and go out with my friends."
Smith added that he has been too busy to schedule in a recording of a high-profile song. "I had the Grammys in February, which was unreal. I've done two American tours, one throat operation on the vocal cords. I bought a house, which is amazing. I lost weight. That's probably a good thing; I was really fat before. Trust me, I was fat."
He also said he was making more time to work on his second album but won't be collaborating with other artists.
"I always play with this idea in my head. I adore Adele records, and if you go back to Etta James records and Nina Samone and Sarah Vaughan, I love how their album is just them. I think that's important.
"I like to collaborate. I think it's an amazing thing, but I kind of like to do it outside of the album. I feel like that the album is my voice, I should tell a story. So I don't think so. But I will collaborate."
Radiohead, who have covered the theme song to The Spy Who Loved Me, are the surprise bookies' favourites to record the theme following an anonymous £15,000 bet being placed on the likelihood of them performing the track.
Spectre, the 24th Bond film, opens worldwide on October 26.
Smith wrote on Instagram last night, "ELECTRIC PICNIC. I said it and I mean it.... That was the best festival I've ever played. I love you Ireland, more than you know xx."
