Stephen King's Under The Dome television series has been cancelled by CBS after three seasons.
The small screen adaptation of King's 2009 book of the same name debuted in 2013, earning over 13 million viewers for its first episode. The viewing figure made it the most-watched summer drama opener since 1992.
Ratings have plummeted over the past two years however, with CBS confirming that the current season will be the last, with the final episode to air in America on September 10.
"Two years ago, Under The Dome broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world," CBS' Nina Tassler said. "We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester's Mill as the story comes full circle, with the Dome coming down as dramatically as it went up."
The third season premieres on RTÉ2 on Thursday, September 3 at 8.05pm.
In the first episode of what is now the final season of the show, the residents of Chester's Mill appear both inside and outside the Dome following their mysterious encounter in the tunnels beneath the town. As the Dome begins to reveal its ultimate agenda, the townspeople are forced to question what and whom they can trust as fresh threats appear, new residents emerge and surprising alliances form.
