The Legend of Longwood, a new family adventure which was filmed in Ireland, is to open in cinemas on October 23.

Directed by Lisa Mulcahy (Red Rock, The Clinic), the film stars Lucy Morton, Thekla Reuten, Fiona Glascott, Miriam Margolyes, Seán Mahon, Lorcan Cranitch, Lorcan Bonner and Anabel Sweeney.

It tells the story of Mickey Miller (Morton), a 12-year-old American who moves to Ireland where she finds a link between herself and the Black Knight who haunts the village of Longwood.

Among the locations used in The Legend of Longwood are Howth Castle, Co Dublin; Ballygarth Castle, Co Meath and Co Wicklow's Powerscourt Estate, Russborough House and Wicklow Gaol.

Director Mulcahy told TEN that to see her film in Irish cinemas would represent "a childhood dream come true".

"Children rarely get to see movies in the cinema that feature other real, live children anymore," she said.

"They don't really ever get to experience having cinematic heroes their own age, like I did when I was young. So I wanted to give our audience that experience, and also to make them laugh and think - and even frighten them a bit."
