Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan is on the mend after a fall on Tuesday night that resulted in a fractured pelvis.

The 57-year-old singer and songwriter is reported to be recovering in hospital with his partner Victoria Mary Clarke at his side.

She took to Facebook and Twitter to thank people who sent messages of good will, and also reported on MacGowan's stautus.

Clarke wrote: "Just to say thanks to everyone who sent messages to #shanemacgowan he is grateful! Cranky, but recovering! Fell and broke his pelvis.

"Special love to everyone in hospital today, especially Shane and Sinead."

"So many lovely messages for Shane on Facebook.

"He is really moved and is feeling a whole lot better already, thanks to everyone thinking about him! Xxx"

Clarke also joked that MacGowan suffered the injury while dancing. She wrote: "He broke his pelvis doing a complicated dance move!"

Speaking to RTÉ TEN this afternoon, MacGowan's sister Siobhan offered an update on his condition and how the injury occurred.

"He's doing okay. He fell getting out of a van on Tuesday night and has a fracture in his pelvis. It's the type of fracture that doesn't need operation, but plenty of rest and physio.

So he's having physio twice a day in hospital, which he's grumbling about, but doing. He's getting the best care available, so everything's under control."
