Dublin soft rockers Kodaline dropped into Eoghan McDermott's show on 2fm this afternoon to plug their new single and they also invited listeners to send in abusive texts - and then read them out live on air.

One listener, Ronan in Wexford, said: "Kodaline, you've ruined weddings. I'm tired of your sappy nonsense being played for every first dance."

Another choice missive was: "Kodaline sound like cat with diarrhea being strangled", a real zinger which left already laconic frontman Steve Carrigan speechless.

"Kodaline look like the love child of Take That and My Chemical Romance" was another observation from a listener.

Another delivered a triple whammy insult when they suggested: "Kodaline, you are the modern day Aslan - shite and loved by Dublin council flat dwellers only."

Carrigan also read out this rather limp insult, "Kodaline are so bad that when they came on stage at Croke Park with Ed Sheeran the queue at the bar doubled."

Kodaline's new single Love Will Set You Free was co-written by Johnny McDaid of Snow Patrol and has a video directed by his  fiancée, former Friends star Courteney Cox.
