Actor Jason Mitchell, who plays rapper Eazy E in new NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, says he saw huge similarities between his own upbringing in post-Katrina New Orleans and the troubled early life of the late rapper.
Speaking to RTÉ TEN, Mitchell said: "I think I tapped into that fire that we both had to leave our situation. I love my city, I love New Orleans but I want to be an example of how you can still be you and be cool but not have to be a thug and not have to be in and out of jail or be dead. I think Eazy was trying to do the same thing."
