Aidan Turner is set to return to Poldark for a further five years with the BBC reportedly signing a £50 million deal to keep the popular drama on the small screen until 2020.
The 32-year-old actor, who plays 18th century Cornish squire Captain Ross Poldark on the show, won't be leaving the show anytime soon, according to the Sunday Mirror.
“We are keen to find a long-running drama which will return year after year and bring in a big audience – our own Downton Abbey. We believe Poldark fits the bill perfectly," a BBC source told the newspaper.
"We’d be mad not to give viewers more of what they want", the show insider added.
Turner recently said that the second series of the BBC reboot of the seventies drama will be two episodes longer than season one.
In an interview with The Huffington Post, the Dublin-born actor revealed that there will be an extra two episodes when the drama returns in April next year. Turner said: "It's going to be longer than it was last year. We're going to start September, I think first week of September . . . or second week of September. I think we go until like the first week in April.
"We've two extra episodes this season, which is amazing. The shoot is probably seven and a half months or something like that. A bit longer than last year."
The BBC had a surprise hit on their hands earlier this year when the drama reached viewing figures of up to 5.9 million.
Turner, who starred in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, also said he was looking forward to returning to Cornwall to reprise his role as Ross Poldark, the British soldier who returns to his much-changed homestead after fighting for the King in the American War of Independence.
"I can't wait to get back there. I love shooting the show, I love Cornwall, and adore everyone in the show, so it'll be fun," Turner added.
