Filming has wrapped on a new Irish movie, Twice Shy, which examines the ever-controversial issue of abortion and stars Ardal O'Hanlon and Pat Shortt.

The movie is described by writer-director Tom Ryan as a coming-of-age drama and tells the story of Maggie Collin played by Iseult Casey and her boyfriend Andy played by Shane Murray-Corcoran (Angela's Ashes) who accompanies her to London for a termination.

Shortt plays Maggie's father, with O'Hanlon playing Andy's. The young couple from Tipperary have some life changing decisions to make and the film portrays their journey, through the ups and downs of their relationship. Despite the sensitive subject matter the makers say the movie will be "a light hearted drama".

The film, which was filmed mainly in Nenagh alongside locations in Dublin and London, is due for release next Spring and Ryan says he hopes the film shows viewers how an unplanned pregnancy affects both parties in a relationship.

"We hope that by having household names such as Ardal O'Hanlon and Pat Shortt, it will present distributors with a fabulous opportunity to show that a topical independent film can be successful, engaging, and enjoyed by movie audiences of all ages," he added.
