Actress Shannen Doherty has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is suing her former business manager for neglecting to pay for her medical insurance bills.
The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star is suing her former business manager who she claims allowed her health insurance to lapse, TMZ reports today (August 19).
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the 44-year-old actress filed a lawsuit against her accounting firm Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson, who she says failed to pay for her Screen Actors Guild medical insurance without her consent or knowledge.
Doherty claims that the firm ignored an invoice for payment of the insurance in 2014, causing it to be cancelled. She says during the lapse period before she could re-enroll for the policy in 2015 she didn't regularly visit doctors, which had previously been her practice.
After getting her insurance back in March 2015, Doherty says she went to the doctor and discovered she had "invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node" which would have been easier to treat if it had been detected earlier. In the court documents she details how she will begin chemotherapy and undergo a mastectomy soon.
Doherty is seeking compensatory and restitutionary damages according to the lawsuit.
