Brian Gleeson has said he had to do extensive research for his role in new RTÉ One drama Rebellion, and he exclusively told TEN he felt it was important to "connect back" to 1916 to get a true sense of the people.
Rebellion is a five-part serial drama which charts the violent birth of modern Ireland, and is set over three weeks in Easter 1916.
Speaking about what viewers can expect, 27-year-old Gleeson, said: "Lots of different things. It explores Dublin as a city, so a lot of action set pieces and drama. A lot of realism as well.
"It's complicated stuff. It's not black and white - the way we think of it or were taught sometimes. I'm really looking forward to it," he told TEN.
Gleeson said that he did extensive research for his role: "I made sure to do a lot of reading. Its fictional characters but it's really about ordinary people in the city. It was important to connect back to the period and read a lot of witness statements and testimonies, and just to get a sense of the people of the time."
Charlie Murphy and Sarah Greene will all star in the drama, which will be broadcast on RTÉ One in 2016.
