Swedish acting great Max von Sydow is joining Deadwood's Ian McShane in the cast of Game of Thrones for season six.
US trade publication Variety, which confirmed von Sydow's casting, says that he will play The Three-Eyed Raven, a character originally played by Struan Rodger in the season four finale of the HBO show.
The Three-Eyed Raven teaches Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) about his supernatural abilities.
There are no details on McShane's character at present.
It is reported that 86-year-old von Sydow will have a key role in season six but that his screen time will be limited.
Von Sydow is one of the stars of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opens on December 18.
In a career spanning eight decades, his other credits include The Seventh Seal, The Exorcist, Flash Gordon, Escape to Victory, Pelle the Conqueror, Minority Report, The Tudors and Shutter Island.
