Singer Gwen Stefani and Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale have announced that they are to divorce after almost 13 years of marriage.

The Voice USA coach Stefani filed her petition for divorce on Monday in the Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences.

The couple have three sons, Kingston, aged nine; Zuma, aged six; and Apollo, aged one.

In a statement, Stefani and Rossdale said: "While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment."

They added: "To that end, we respectfully request privacy from the media during this time."
