Phil Rudd, the Australian-born former drummer with legendary rock band AC/DC, has been remanded on bail by a New Zealand court for breaching the conditions of his home detention.

The 61-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge of consuming alcohol, from which he is prohibited, and was remanded on bail until a hearing in late November.

Rudd's arrest came less than two weeks after he was sentenced to eight months' home detention on charges of threatening to kill, as well as drug possession.

On the second Saturday night of the sentence he was taken from his home by police and imprisoned.

He appeared in court this morning and was granted bail under the same house arrest conditions.

During sentencing Rudd was warned by Judge Thomas Ingram that a home detention sentence is a substitute for jail time, and that if he cannot keep to the home detention conditions, then he would be incarcerated.
