Bob Geldof has revealed that he only started a band so he could hook up with girls.
The Boomtown Rats star made the admission on The Imelda May Show after he was asked how his plan to "get rich, famous and get laid" was going.
He replied: "You try getting shagged in 1970 in Ireland, you had to start a band to do it! And I did on our first night, 40 years ago on Halloween night this year. We played on Bolton Street in a classroom to about 30 people and we were crap but I said we were brilliant.
"We didn't know how long to play, so we learned off three hours of stuff and halfway through this girl came over and said she wanted to give me one. And I said "This is it, yes! I've read about this but it's never happened! If she'd met me in the pub an hour and a half earlier she would have told me to f*** off. So that was one..."
He added more seriously: "When I said that quote, I said I wanted to be famous so I could use the platform it gave me to talk about the things that bothered me, so I've done that."
Geldof also spoke about the riches he has made saying: "And Imelda, I'm worth millions!"
The Imelda May Show also features Mundy, Soak and Big Boy Bloater, and airs tonight on RTÉ One at 9.35pm.
