There's further changes afoot on The X Factor after Peter Dickson, the man responsible for the distinctive announcements on the show, has announced that he is hanging up his microphone.

The 58-year-old, who is known to millions for his introductions of both judges and performers, announced today on Twitter that he is leaving the show after eleven years.

Dickson has been with The X Factor since it began back in 2004. As well as X Factor, Dickinson has also lent his voice to shows such as Britain's Got Talent, The Price Is Right, and Family Fortunes.

Fans have been expressing their disappointment at today's news with many saying the show simply won't be the same without his voice-over talents.

He is not the first mainstay to leave the hit show ahead of the new series, following host Dermot O'Leary and veteran judge Louis Walsh out of the door. O'Leary has been replaced by co-hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack.

This year Simon Cowell will be joined on the judging panel by Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, alongside newcomers Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw.
