Kodaline bassist Jason Boland showed up men everywhere when he went down on one knee and proposed during the band's guest appearance with Ed Sheeran at Croke Park at the weekend, according to fiancée Etaoin Corr.

The proposal took place on Saturday in front of 80,000 people.

Corr told 2fm's Stephen Byrne that the gesture was completely out of character for the musician.

"I don't know what came over him!" she said. "I often thought that if we did get engaged, it would be something like sitting at home watching TV... I think there are a lot of men out there that are a bit annoyed at Jay."

The couple have been together for seven years but have been friends since childhood.

The music PR agent realised that something weird was going on when her normally chilled-out, quiet boyfriend was given the microphone. She was watching the show from side-stage before Sheeran's security ushered her towards the steps and she was brought in front of the crowd.

"I can't really remember a lot of it...I think I might have blacked out," she said.

Kodaline drummer Vinny May is set to wed childhood sweetheart Carina Elliott next summer, so the two women will have plenty of planning to do together.
