Dublin singer songwriter Gavin James says that he was honoured to headline the fundraising gig in Dublin for the survivors of June's balcony collapse in California.
Speaking to RTÉ News before the sold-out show on Thursday night in The Academy, James said: "It's a great opportunity to give something back after the terrible thing that happened and I am honoured to be able to do it. It's great that all the students got together and put this all together because it's not an easy thing to do."
Asked if he had any message for his fans at the Berkeley fundraiser show, James said: "It's an Irish thing to always look after your own and it's great that everybody has come together like this. I haven't done a lot of gigs like this before, thank god, I am kind of nervous."
Nicky Byrne was MC at the show and James, Mundy, Jape, Vann Music, The Fontaines and The Dublin Gospel Choir all performed to raise funds, which will be divided between the seven injured victims of the Berkeley tragedy.
You can donate through the dedicated gofundme.com page. So far organisers have raised over €18,000 and they hope it will eventually reach €25,000.
Gavin James also plays support to Ed Sheeran at Croke Park on Friday and he admitted to RTÉ News that he is "bricking it" ahead of the show.
