Million Euro in doubt as Winning Streak renewed

Winning Streak to continue into the Autumn
Winning Streak to continue into the Autumn

The future of Nicky Byrne’s Million Euro Challenge looks uncertain after RTÉ confirmed that Winning Streak will continue into the autumn.

The former Westlife star’s programme, which replaced the long-running game show in January, struggled to attract viewers. Audiences fell as low as 165,000 in its prime-time Saturday evening television slot, amidst complaints that the show was too complicated.

Winning Streak, which is hosted by Marty Whelan and Sinead Kennedy returned to our screens in June after its longest absence since it began on Saturday nights in 1990.

The debut episode of the game show trumped its rival with an audience of 312,700 viewers and it still regularly pulls in over 300,000 viewers since it’s return to air.

This evening a spokesperson for RTÉ confirmed that the show would continue for the forseeable future but they remained tight lipped on the future of Million Euro Challenge.

A statement said “We can confirm that Winning Streak will be returning in the autumn. The series will run until early in the new year and discussions are ongoing with the National Lottery about plans for lottery games shows for 2016".
