The actress said in a statement: "I am in absolute shock. I was out of the country travelling to meet my daughters for a birthday celebration when I got the devastating news.

"The loss of a child is an unthinkable tragedy and my heart goes out to this young man's family and friends. I ask that you please respect the privacy of all concerned during this sensitive time."

The 52-year-old Ghost actress and her daughters were out of town at the time, but were informed of the incident by police who have now launched an investigation.

One of Demi's neighbours told the entertainment site TMZ that Demi's children have been throwing "parties every day, day and night" at the house for weeks.

The resident added that there have been "frequent" pool parties.

Three weeks ago, Tallulah took to Instagram posting a snap of herself, Scout and Demi in bikinis by a pool, and revealed they were having a pool party.
