San Diego Comic-Con is undoubtedly one of the biggest movie and television events of the year with star-studded panels giving fans the inside track on their upcoming releases. We've rounded-up the TEN biggest and best things from this year's event.

10. Bill Murray

It seems hard to believe that a living legend like Bill Murray had never appeared at Comic-Con before but at the opening panel event he made his grand debut to discuss his new dramedy Rock the Kasbah, along with the film's writer Mitch Glazer (pictured below).

During his appearance Murray shared some pearls of wisdom ("You don't have to get intense when you're working. Just try to make the other person look good and then you don't have to worry about yourself"), revealed his favourite role to date (Ghostbusters – "Once upon a time, I did save the city of New York, and I had the coolest damn car to drive around Manhattan") and shared the love for Zooey Deschanel ("She can really sing") and Miley Cyrus ("I'm going to say this officially. Miley Cyrus is good").

9. Game of Thrones

(L-R) Natalia Dormer, Sophie Turner, Hannah Murray, Carice van Houten, Liam Cunningham, Alfie Allen and Gwendoline Christie

Spoiler alert!

After the season five finale, the one question on every Game of Thrones fans lips – is Jon Snow alive or dead? Director David Nutter revealed at the show's Comic-Con panel that even the American Commander in Chief Barack Obama is desperate to know the character's fate. Nutter told the audience about his encounter with Obama, "He shook my hand, put his hand on my shoulder, and said, 'You didn't really kill Jon Snow, did you?' I said, 'Mr. President, Jon Snow is deader than dead'." And in saying that, he broke our hearts again.

Kit Harington as Jon Snow

Another highlight of the panel was getting to see the stars of the hit show auditioning for the roles that would make them some of the most recognisable faces in the world today. From Rose Leslie – who went on to play Ygritte – first uttering those iconic words "You know nothing, Jon Snow", to Natalie Dormer's try-out for the role of Margaery, and Carice van Houten "messing up" her audition for Melisandre, you need to see this behind-the-scenes look at the casting process.

And we have to give a special mention to to Daavos' revenge...

8. Goodbye to The Hunger Games

Comic-Con 2015 marks the last time the stars of The Hunger Games will attend together as the series is set to come to a close this year with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2. Stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth brought with them the first trailer for the final instalment and it sees Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen ready to go into battle.

Having spent the last few years together, there was a bitter-sweet atmosphere in Hall H of the San Diego Convention Centre as the cast spoke about their time working on the films and dealing with the end of an era. Lawrence said of the final film, "The final film ends the story. I'm just excited for people to see how it closes out and to see that emotion and that history play out. Something was bestowed onto Katniss in a way that me saying yes into these movies was onto me. The changes that happened in my life from doing these movies are so permanent and still with me that I don’t think I’ll ever say goodbye to her."

We'll miss those three goofing around on red-carpets and in interviews but luckily Comic-Con is not the end as there'll be world premieres and press tours to look forward to - it'll be a long and emotional goodbye to the Mockingjay.

7. Tarantino hints at Kill Bill: Volume 3

It's been 11 years since the release of Kill Bill: Volume 2 and speaking at the panel discussion for his upcoming new release The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino gave us hope that we could see a third outing for The Bride and co.

While Tarantino didn't offer any concrete plans, he said when asked about the possibility of revisiting the series, "Never say never, we'll see, when it comes to Kill Bill 3. Uma [Thurman] would really like to do it, we talk about it every once in a while or so..."

Tarantino then suggested that the third film could centre on the daughter of Vivica A. Fox's character Vernita saying, "We've got to wait for Vernita's daughter to get old enough to go and kill her."

It may not be concrete but it's enough hope to get us excited!

6. Ben Affleck in action as Batman

The moment we've all been waiting for since the news that Ben Affleck would be taking on the role of the caped crusader came at Comic-Con – we got to see him in action as Bruce Wayne and Batman in the first trailer for the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Henry Cavill (Superman) and Ben Affleck (Batman)

The trailer builds tension and is sure to have fans on the edge of their seats with excitement and Affleck brings a darkness to the role that we can't wait to see in feature length. The star has clearly made himself at home in Wayne Manor too with news that he will co-write, direct and star in a standalone movie about the Dark Knight!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits cinemas in March 2016.

5. First look at Suicide Squad

With a cast that boasts Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnamon and many more, the excitement around DC Comics' Suicide Squad has been phenomenal and fans got a first look at the film at this year's Comic-Con and one thing stands out – Jared Leto is going to be an amazing Joker.

(L-R) Karen Fukuhara, Adam Beach, Cara Delevingne, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Margot Robbie and Will Smith

The film is still in production so the teaser consists of a montage of really cool looking shots rather than any lengthy scenes, and it looks like it's going to be quite the spectacle. We can't wait to see a film that centres on a band of villains - they're always way more interesting than the good guys right? We'll find out when the film hits cinemas in August next year!

4. Gambit is a go!

Channing Tatum has been attached to the role of Marvel's Gambit for quite some time now and while we all expected his casting to mean he would appear in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, it's looking like he's getting his own standalone movie instead/as well – we're not giving up on speculation that he will join the X-Men world too after helmer Bryan Singer posted a selfie with Tatum on Instagram with the caption, "Always wanted to work with this guy ;) #XMen #Gambit"

Fans were warned before the panel, that also included the stars of Fantastic Four and X-Men: Apocalypse, that a big surprise was coming at the end and surprises don't come much bigger than Channing Tatum. As he walked out the Gambit title appeared on screen and with that, the cat was out of the bag.

Tatum was also getting cosey with Wolverine star Hugh Jackman – a bromance we can totally get on board with!

3. Sherlock goes meta

It's been too long since we've heard from Sherlock and Watson and in a brand new clip released at Comic-Con we got the first look at the Christmas Special, which was very meta indeed.

In the clip we take a trip back to Victorian England as Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock and Martin Freeman's Watson return home from a lengthy stint away from 221b Baker Street - it's been a long time in real life too, by the time the Christmas Special airs it will be two long years since we had a new episode.

While Cumberbatch and his co-stars Mark Gatiss and Andrew Scott were unable to attend the panel, they did leave fans with a message:

2. Domhnall Gleeson goes bad

Ever since we heard Domhnall Gleeson was going to be in Star Wars we have been SO curious to know what kind of a role he had landed and now we have the answer - the baddie. The 32-year-old Irishman will play General Hux of the First Order and Gleeson told the crowd, "It's a huge honour and a little bit scary to take it on yourself, it's a bit mad."

Girls star Adam Driver and Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie will also be taking a villainous turn as Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma respectively.

Carrie Fischer, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford

Of course, while all of our curiosity was focussed on Gleeson, for the fans, seeing Harrison Ford, Carrie Fischer and Mark Hamill in the flesh was the highlight - and of course the post-panel Star Wars concert also went down a treat. Free lightsabers? We're there!

While an official trailer was not debuted, instead we were given a behind-the-scenes look at production:

1. All-star selfies and ultimate squad goals

Get a load of a-list celebs in a room together and of course there will be a wave of selfies on Instagram and Twitter and we'd be lying if we said this wasn't something we enjoyed an awful lot during Comic-Con. Here are some of our favourite selfies that cropped up on social media throughout the event.
